Yesterday was my dad's boat launch... better known as THE Boat Launch! Three years in the making, my dad has been dreaming of this day for a long time and the momentous occasion could not have been more perfect. The weather was unbelievable, the fans were many, and the boat sailed like a champ. The only thing that could have made it better would have been more wind, but truth be told - for my dad's first time sailing, I wasn't disappointed that there wasn't more wind. :) This post will be long, because there was a lot of family that couldn't make it to this event. I tried to document well with pictures and there are several that I didn't post. We even video taped the inaugural launch, but our stupid video camera decided to erase a bunch of video - including lots of "firsts" for Ellie. SO frustrating, but that's another story for another time.
We set sail on Vancouver Lake on May 24th, 2009. This was the first time the "Kristin" had been in water and she performed beautifully. No leaks or nothing! :) Here is the trek from the car to the water. The lake did not have a boat launch, so we did it manually.
Instead of breaking a champagne bottle (out of fear of denting the boat), Nancy Vance blessed the boat with a sack of animal crackers and a verse from Genesis. It was great!

The initial launch was actually as a row boat. Since my dad has never been sailing before, he wanted to make sure his friend, Bob, was in the boat when the sail went up. However, he knew that Mom better get the first ride - so they went for a nice row. :)

And off they go! A little anti-climactic with the low wind, however fun all the same.
That's a look of pure joy, folks! He was so happy! Mom said he was like a little boy on Christmas morning before they left the house for the lake. So cute!

Thanks for posting the pictures. We would have come but we hadn't even brushed our teeth yet when Justin had called-we would have never made it in time. That looks like it was a lot of fun, congrats to Pat!
