On Monday and Wednesday of our East Coast extravaganza we spent time in Princeton, NJ and the nearby areas. It was really special being able to see Jackie and Brant's home, Brant's school (Princeton), and important historical areas that were right there.
On Monday, after Maddie went to the doctor to get antibiotics for a sinus infection (poor baby!) and Mom and I went for a run along the canal, we toured the Princeton campus. It was stunning!! There is so much history and pride in the campus, as I am sure you can imagine. It was really neat for Brant to be able to show us the buildings where he took classes, the amazing gothic cathedral where he will graduate, and the rest of the campus. After our tour around campus, we got to enjoy a neighborhood barbeque that Jackie's housing complex hosts ever Monday. It was awesome to meet Jackie's neighbors and friends and participate in a one of their weekly activities.

On Wednesday, we went to Washington's Crossing or the Delaware Crossing (whichever way you choose to remember it) in Pennsylvania - approximately 25 minutes from Jackie's house. This was where Washington and led his troops to the Battle of Trenton on December 26th, 1776. The victory of the battle changed the course of the Revolutionary war and truly encompassed the motto "Victory or Death." It was a tremendous history lesson/reminder for us all and incredible to see the actual area of the crossing. It was also amazing to me, from a military standpoint, to know that men fought for our country's freedom - even when over 90% of the army had been killed. Although failure/death seemed unavoidable, they continued to fight for our country's freedom. Thank God they didn't give up!! Their sacrifice (as well as their families) is why we have a free country today.
